Where Quartz meets Telescopes.

We supply high-quality, quartz mirror blanks to the amateur astronomy market. Quartz is a very pure glass with an extremely high melting point. Quartz is much stronger than it's Pyrex counterpart, and can be made thinner and lighter than traditional mirrors, making for lighter telescopes and a simpler mirror cell. Traditionally, quartz has been far too expensive to be economical for the amateur astronomer. Our mi/SSIon is to bring quartz to the amateur market at an affordable cost.

Last year, driven mostly by the expansion of the semiconductor market in India and China, a worldwide supply shortage developed in the quartz ware market. As a result, my supply was lost last September. As I had anticipated, the production of quartz glass has been increasing to the point that it is now available again to secondary markets like astronomy.

There have, however, been substantial changes to what we can supply and in what quantities. First, since the semiconductor industry has moved to larger format wafers, the smaller diameter cores are no longer being produced. As a result we no longer carry material smaller than 11" diameter. Second, the availability of the 20.25" material is greatly reduced. Therefore we will be listing those individul blanks with prices on their respective pages.
